Research food label rules and build a compliant label mock-up for Mommy's Breadcrumbs across farmers markets, grocery, online, and wholesale.
Mommy's Breadcrumbs is getting ready to move from farmers markets into grocery shelves and online sales. Before any of that ships, every product label needs to be legally right — for the FDA, for California retail, and for interstate e-commerce.
We need a research-driven audit and a labeled mock-up that shows exactly what belongs on our packaging and why. The sales channel matters: a label that works at a farmers market is not the same label that clears a grocery buyer or an online listing. We want one document that a co-packer, a retail buyer, or a lawyer could open and immediately understand.
Deliverable: a compliance package with four parts.
1. A checklist covering FDA rules, California-specific requirements, refrigerated food callouts, ingredient list formatting, allergen declarations, Nutrition Facts panel, net weight, manufacturer info, lot codes, best-by dates, UPC barcodes, and storage/refrigeration statements.
2. A labeled mock-up of a Mommy's Breadcrumbs product label with every legally required element called out and explained in plain English.
3. A channel comparison showing what changes (if anything) between farmers markets, grocery stores, online listings, and wholesale distribution.
4. A short list of optional-but-recommended additions and notes on what to plan for as we scale into more SKUs and more states.
You'll get: our current product info (ingredients, weights, process), photos of the current label, and a call with Mandy to walk through where we sell now and where we're headed. Cite official sources — FDA CFR sections, CDPH guidance — so we can defend every choice.
